SEARCY, Ark. – Henderson State snaps Harding's 16-game win streak in game two of the doubleheader, winning 3-1 to even the series 1-1 after the Lady Bisons opened the twin bill with a 2-1 win. HSU and HU conclude the series tomorrow at noon in a rubber match from Harding Softball Field.
Lily Warren led the bats with four hits and two runs scored in the two games and was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate in game one with a run scored.
Hilary Akers went 2-of-3 at the plate in game two and the Reddies finished with five hits to Harding's two knocks.
Meagan Allen improved to 4-4 in the circle in game two, pitching a complete game and allowing one run on just two hits in seven innings.
GAME ONE: HU 2, HSU 1
Little separated Henderson and Harding through the first three innings, with the score locked at 0-0 and each team having two hits. HU's two hits came in the bottom of the first and had runners on second and third, but
Brooke Johnson worked out of the jam to strand the runners in scoring position.
In the top of the fourth, Warren led off the frame with a single to third base and would reach third after a stolen base and throwing error by Harding's catcher. The next at-bat,
Justine Burch, knocked a single through the left side to score Warren and give the Reddies a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Bisons put the pressure on Henderson in the bottom of the fifth, with runners on second and third with just one out. Like the first inning, Johnson worked back-to-back ground outs to keep the runners from advancing and keep HSU ahead 1-0.
After being held scoreless for six innings, Harding began to find some momentum in the bottom of the seventh and loaded the bases with one out. A single plated the tying run, and on the next at-bat, the Lady Bisons scored the game-winning run on a walk.
GAME TWO: HSU 3, HU 1
The Reddies and Lady Bisons were scoreless after two innings of play, but that would change in the third, with both sides trading runs. Following back-to-back outs in the top of the third, HSU's
Mackenzie Williams worked a walk and was brought home on a double to right-center by
Jorika Alvarez in the next at-bat. HU even the game 1-1 in the bottom half after stringing together a pair of hits.
Both sides kept one another off the scoreboard in the fourth and fifth frames, but Henderson would retake the lead in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice flyout by
Emylee Bittinger to score Warren. In the next frame, two errors by the Harding defense saw the Reddies add to their lead and make it 3-1 when
Jay Albiter crossed home on a throwing error by HU's pitcher after reaching on a walk.
In the final four innings, Allen allowed just one base runner to reach for Harding in the bottom of the fifth on a walk and retired the side in order in the sixth and seventh to pick her fourth win of the season and even the series with HU 1-1.
