LOWELL, Ark. - Henderson State's 2023-24 season came to a close in the 2024 GAC Tournament Semifinals after falling to the No. 2 seed and No. 15 nationally ranked Southern Arkansas Muleriders, 4-2.
Southern Arkansas took the early advantage with the doubles point before HSU needed to grab four of the remaining six singles matches to pull off the upset. That lead grew to 2-0 before All-GAC First Team selection
Kristina Kozlova put the Reddies on the board.
After losing to Southern Arkansas's Annika Berrendorf in the regular season, Kozlova got her revenge with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2. Second Team All-Conference recipient
Jenna Kate Bohnert followed in line with a straight-set 6-2, 7-6, win to even the overall match, 2-2.
Both teams' No. 1 singles players looked to break the tie with the competitors each taking one set. The third stanza resulted in a third-set tiebreaker before SAU's Greta Wallin took the three-set victory, 6-3, 6-7, 7-6.
With
Haarini Balakrishnan making a comeback in her match at No. 6, the overall match was clinched with a 6-0, 7-5 victory for the Muleriders at the No. 5 line.
Henderson State finishes its 2023-24 season with a 14-9 overall record while also capturing its best-ever finish in conference play, claiming the No. 3 seed with a 3-2 league record.
