Reddies Take Down St. Mary’s, Mississippi College to Finish Reddie-Tiger Invite 4-0

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.  -  Thirteen sets proved to be a lucky number for Henderson State Volleyball at the Reddie-Tiger Invitational. After sweeping Montevallo and McKendree Friday, the Reddies took down St. Mary's and Montevallo in seven combined sets to finish the tournament with a 4-0 record.

In a battle of then-undefeated teams, St. Mary's (3-1) denied HSU a third straight sweep by taking set number three - the only set that the Reddies lost all weekend. Henderson quickly bounced back with a set four victory before sweeping Mississippi College (2-2), making them the only team to walk out of the Reddie-Tiger Invitational undefeated.

Christiane Uzoh recorded a season-high 18 kills in the win against St. Mary. She leads the team with 39 kills thus far in 2024.

Kaitlyn Steffes closed out the tournament with 35 kills in her own right. On defense, she added 11 blocks and 41 digs, including 14 against St. Mary's.

Savannah Coats led the offensive attack against Mississippi College with 11 kills. Her 28 kills put her in third place on the Reddie leaderboard for that category.

Andrea Roland proved to be another efficient option on offense with a .455 hitting percentage against the Choctaws.

Cassidi Campbell made her mark with 14 blocks across the weekend's four matches, giving her the team lead at this point in the year. Larkin Luke added six blocks in Saturday's contest to bring her season total to twelve.

Madison Hatt and Braxton Jones proved to be a dynamic duo at setter. The senior Hatt put up a team-best 66 assists during the Reddies' first four matches, while the true freshman Jones posted 49. Hatt set a new season best with 21 assists against St. Mary's.

Defensive specliast Kaylon Partain made it three matches in a row with double-digit digs when she tallied 13 and 15 against St. Mary's and Mississippi College, respectively. She finished the tournament with 52 digs.

Next week, Henderson will travel to Lane College for a non-conference bout before heading to Denton, Texas, for Denton Volleyfest. The road match against the Dragons is set for 6:30 p.m. on Monday, September 9, in Jackson, Tennessee. The Reddies will open play at Denton Volleyfest against Pitt State on Thursday, September 12, at 7:00 p.m.
