MAGNOLIA, Ark. - Henderson State secured its first sweep of the 2024-25 GAC season on Saturday with a 75-68 win over Southern Arkansas in Magnolia. It was the team's first victory at SAU since 2020.
After shooting over 61 percent as a team in the second quarter, the Reddies carried a six-point lead into the locker room. HSU's lead grew to as much as 11 points in the third quarter, but the hosting Muleriders went on a 13-2 run to tie up the game with just under four minutes to go in the period. Henderson took the lead back on a layup from Sam Basson and held on the rest of the way for a hard-fought road win.
Brynlee Huggins made a career-high six three-pointers en route to a 23-point day at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center. In doing so, Huggins became the first GAC player to reach 50 made threes this season.
Basson posted a career-high 18 points on four-of-five shooting from beyond the arc. The sophomore from Allen, Texas, also recorded three assists: a total she has achieved or bested in six of her last eight games.
Natalie Cardenas had 15 points, marking the eighth time that she has reached double figures in the 2024-25 campaign. In addition to her scoring efforts, she paced the team with eight rebounds and four assists.
Following Saturday's victory, the Reddies will return to the Duke Wells Center as they prepare to host the East Central Tigers on Thursday, January 30. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
