ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson faced off against the Crimson Storm of Southern Nazarene, and reverse swept SNU 3-2 tonight.
"We had a great fight" said coach McDaniel "our team was resilient tonight. Hope we have a quicker start. Love how we competed, loved how we didn't give up, and we fought through it."
The Reddies had a strong offensive showing tonight as
Katilyn Steffes led the team with 25 kills, while
Kelis Battles added 17.
Braxton Jones led the team with 28 assists while
Skylar Holler added 14.
Kaylon Partain provided three service aces for the Reddies. Steffes led the team defensively tonight with 18 digs, while Partain followed with 16. At the net, three Reddies had a multi-block night, as
Cassidi Campbell,
Rylee Smith and
Lasheena Gooseberry all had two.
Match Recap
The first set started off rough for the Reddies as they fell behind early 4-2. The Reddies fought back, tying the set 7-7 with a kill by Steffes. Both teams exchanged points, and a 3-0 run gave SNU a 15-10 lead, and Henderson took a timeout. Another 3-0 gave the Crimson Storm a 19-13 lead. While the Reddies attempted to rally, SNU held off any comeback, and they won the first set 25-20.
The Reddies started on the offensive in the second set, taking a 5-2 lead, before a 4-0 run by SNU pulled them into the lead 6-5. SNU kept pushing, and held a 12-10 lead, before a 4-0 run by Henderson pushed into the lead 14-12. A 5-1 run by SNU recaptured the lead and Henderson took a timeout. Another 3-0 gave SNU a 22-18 lead, and Henderson took their second timeout. While the Reddies were able to bring the score to 24-22, the Crimson Storm won the second set 25-22.
In the third set, Southern Nazarene took the lead early 5-3. The Reddies were able to tie the score 7-7 off a kill by Campbell. SNU pulled ahead 10-8 before a 8-0 run by the Reddies led by three kills by Steffes gave Henderson the lead 16-10. SNU used a 4-0 run to catch up 16-14, but Henderson used a timeout to slow their momentum. Henderosn continued to maintain the lead, and another kill by Campbell forced a Southern Nazarene timeout. The Reddies continued to push, and brought it to set point 24-17. While SNU scored one more point, Gooseberry recorded the set winning block, to secure it 25-18.
The fourth set began with a 6-1 lead for the Reddies, forcing an early timeout by SNU. Another 3-0 run extended the lead for Henderson to 9-2, before SNU could score again. The Reddies continued to push, and prevented SNU from retaking the lead, and another 3-0 run led to a Southern Nazarene timeout, the score sitting at 18-13.
Savannah Coats provided two kills, including the set winning point to win the set 25-17 for the Reddies.
In the final set, both teams exchanged points before a 4-0 run led by two kills by Battles pulled the Reddies into the lead 8-4, and SNU took a timeout. Two kills by Smith and one by Battles brought the Reddies to match point, and while SNU scored two more points, Battles ended the match 15-9.
