ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Reddies have a busy week, as they start off with a tri-match against Lane College and Texas-A&M-Texarkana October 7th, with the first match at 2:00 PM, and the second at 6:00 PM. That isn't the only match of the week however, as the Reddies host Northwestern Oklahoma State Thursday, October 9th at 6:00 PM, and Southwestern Oklahoma State Friday, October 10th at 4:00 PM.
Henderson State are coming off a split week, winning at home against Arkansas-Monticello 3-0, before they headed across the street to take on Ouachita Baptist, losing in four sets 3-1.
The Reddies continue to show strong offense this season. Senior
Katilyn Steffes currently leads the nation and the GAC in total kills with 268, Steffes also leads the GAC in kills per set (4.25) and total attacks (829). Freshman
Kelis Battles ranks second on the team behind Steffes in kills (166), kills per set (2.63) and total attacks (537). Freshman
Berkeley Berry currently ranks fourth in the GAC and leads the team in service aces with 25.
Another freshman standout orchestrates the offense, as Setter
Tyhia Mack leads the team in assists (338) and assists per set (5.37). Sophomore
Skylar Holler and senior
Jessie Jerome have contributed meaningfully at the setter position, as they follow Mack in assists with 155 and 124 respectively.
On the defensive side,
Kaylon Partain currently ranks first in the nation and the GAC this season in total digs (371) and second in the GAC in digs per set (5.98). Steffes and Berry rank behind Partain on the team, collecting 220 and 144 digs respectively.
The net continues to be a strength for the Reddies, as they rank second in the GAC in total blocks (150.5), and blocks per set (2.39). Junior
Cassidi Campbell ranks second in the GAC and leads the team individually, with 73 total blocks, and ranks fourth in blocks per set (1.16), while Steffes ranks second (38.0).
Scouting Lane College (2-15, 1-6)
The Dragons are coming off the SIAC West Cluster this last weekend, where they went 1-2. They lost to Tuskegee University (3-0), won against Miles College (3-2), and then lost to Spring Hill College (3-0).
Lane offensively is led by Kyra Gaston who leads the team in kills (145) and kills per set (2.42). Shaniah Jones orchestrates the offense, as she leads the team in assists (335) and assists per set (5.68), while also leading the team in digs (127) and ranks second in digs per set (2.74).
Other than Jones, Jayla Johnson ranks second on the team in digs (126) and leads the team in total in digs per set (2.74). At the net, Gaston leads the team in total blocks (51.0) while Wynter Hill ranks second with 44.0.
The Reddies won the last time they met the Dragons, winning 3-0 at home, and currently hold a 6-game win streak. When playing inside the Duke Wells Center, HSU is 3-0 against Lane, and is 6-0 all-time.
Scouting Texas A&M-Texarkana (14-4, 2-0)
TAMUT is coming off a 2-0 weekend, where in a double header against Texas College, the Eagles won both matches 3-0.
The Eagles hold a two-headed attack as they have two players with 200+ kills. Kaitlyn Cabral currently leads the team in kills (228) and kills per set (3.62), while Paulina Dobreva follows with 225 kills and 3.57 kills per set. Ashley Rhame leads the offense, as she leads the team with 315 assists, while Zoe Martinez ranks second with 296.
On the defensive side, the Eagles are led by Lauren Herz with 254 total digs. At the net, Macyen Doskocil leads TAMUT in total blocks with 39.
The Reddies have never faced Texas A&M-Texarkana, and this will be the first meeting of these two programs.
Scouting Northwestern Oklahoma State (3-13, 1-4)
The Rangers went 0-2 last week, losing 3-0 to Oklahoma Baptist and then lost 3-0 to Southwestern Oklahoma State.
NWOSU is led offensively by Ece Ozdemir, who leads the team in total kills (154) and kills per set (2.91), while Tess De Zanet ranks second with 134 kills and 2.39 kills per set. Mikayla White orchestrates the offense for the Rangers, as she leads the team in assists (379) and assists per set (7.02).
Defensively, the Rangers are led by Jadyn Padilla with 193 digs, while Ozdemir ranks second with 127. At the net, Cameryn Barclay leads the Rangers in total blocks (21.0) and blocks per set (0.50), while White ranks second with 19 blocks.
The Reddies lost the last time they faced the Rangers, losing in Alva 3-1. When playing in the Duke Wells Center, HSU is 4-2 against NWOSU and currently hold a 6-6 record all-time.
Scouting Southwestern Oklahoma State (5-10, 3-1)
SWOSU are coming off a 2-0 week, where they defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State 3-0, and Northwestern Oklahoma State 3-0.
The Bulldogs have a two-person attack, with Paris Patterson leading the team in kills (153) and kills per set (2.78), while Hailey Smith follows with 152 kills and 2.71 kills per set. The offense is led by Cameron Turner, who ranks third in the GAC in assists (485) and assists per set (8.66).
Defensively, SWOSU is led by Jada Permenter who ranks fourth in the GAC in total digs (270) and digs per set (4.82). At the net, SWOSU is its most dangerous, as they have three players in the top-5 in total blocks in the GAC. Katja Blanchat leads the way with a GAC-leading 78.0 blocks, and 1.50 blocks per set. Sydnee Winfrey ranks fourth in the GAC in total blocks (64.0) and third in blocks per set (1.19). Hailey Smith ranks fifth in the GAC with 62.0 blocks and 1.11 blocks per set.
The Reddies lost the last time they met, losing 3-1 in the GAC Championships. When playing in the Duke Wells Center, HSU is 2-7 against SWOSU, and is 4-15 all-time.
