Reddies Fall to Harding in Searcy

SEARCY, Ark. — Henderson State struggled to keep pace for 40 minutes Saturday night as Harding pulled away for a 74-57 Great American Conference victory at Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

The Reddies (5-5, 2-2 GAC) never led and trailed by eight at halftime before Harding used a strong second-half push to create separation. Henderson State shot 40 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from 3-point range but was outscored 42-33 after the break and sent Harding to the free-throw line 26 times.

Jameel Wesley II led Henderson State with 16 points, knocking down 5 of 9 shots and hitting four 3-pointers. Xavier Owens added 14 points and five rebounds in nearly 38 minutes, while KJ Sykes chipped in seven points off the bench. The Reddies finished with 27 bench points but struggled to generate sustained runs, with their best scoring spurt capped at six points.

The Bisons built early momentum behind Wesley Booker and Keyln McBride, taking control midway through the first half. The Reddies cut the deficit to eight at intermission and briefly pulled within four points early in the second half, but Harding responded with timely perimeter shooting and second-chance opportunities to extend the margin to double digits.

The Reddies were outrebounded 40-25 and allowed 13 second-chance points, a key factor in the outcome. Harding also capitalized at the foul line, making 22 of 26 free throws, while Henderson State went 11 of 16.

HSU returns to action Thursday night, wrapping up its 2025 schedule with a road contest against Southern Arkansas. Tip-off from Magnolia is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
