ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Reddies faced the Savage Storm from Southeastern Oklahoma State tonight in the first GAC matchup of the season, defeating them 91-58.
The Reddies (5-0, 0-0) were led tonight by
Brynlee Huggins, who scored 23 points, shooting 40.0 percent from the floor, and 75.0 percent from beyond the arc.
Brynlee Huggins followed with 19 points, shooting 64.3 percent from the field and 71.4 percent from the three.
Riley Samples provided a spark tonight, as she added 19 points, mostly in the second half, on 53.8 percent shooting.
Grayson Fairless continues to put up rebounds, as she added 12 tonight, while Huggins provided eight.
Sam Basson continues to distribute, adding five assists tonight, while
Kadee Keaster added three.
Game Recap
The Savage Storm were the first to strike, scoring five straight points to take an early lead. While the Reddies scored five to tie, the Storm continued to push, holding a 10-5 lead with 7:30 left in the quarter. The Reddies did not let them extend their lead much further, as Huggins led a a scoring run to tie it, and then captured the lead 16-14 with 3:06 left. Six unanswered points by the Reddies ended the first quarter, as they held a 24-17 lead.
The Reddies used the momentum going into the second quarter to extend their lead. Keaster and Fairless both scored two, with the score at 28-19 in the first two minutes. The Reddies kept up the pressure, as they ended any sort of scoring run by Southeastern, ensuring they maintained a double-digit lead. Huggins' 5 points led the way for the Reddies, as going into the half, Henderson led 44-30.
Coming out of the half, Samples scored the first 10 points for the Reddies, while Huggins added six to give the Reddies a 63-35 lead. While the Savage Storm attempted to try and eliminate the deficit. The Reddies shot 55.6 percent from three to hold a 68-43 lead going into the final quarter.
In the final quarter, any points scored by the Savage Storm was matched by the Reddies, Samples scored five and
Natalie Cardenas added four more to give Henderson a 77-56 lead with four minutes left in the game. The Reddies continued their momentum, scoring ten unanswered points to extend their lead to 30 points. Southeastern only mustered one more point, and
Jayla Lewis scored two free throws to end the game, giving the Reddies a 91-58 win.
