Late-Game Heroics Lift Reddies to Third Straight Win

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.  -  Two last-second free throws from freshman Riley Samples proved to be the difference in a 64-62 Henderson State victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State at the Duke Wells Center on Saturday. Henderson State is now on a three-game winning streak to open the second half of conference play.

HSU scored the first four points of the game and held the lead until the fourth quarter, when the Savage Storm tied the game at 56 around the four-minute mark. Henderson would eventually grow its advantage back to five, but an unanswered five points from Southeastern made it 62-62 with less than a minute to go. With 23 seconds remaining, Natalie Cardenas recorded a critical steal that took away the visitors' chance at a game-winning shot. Off of that turnover, Samples drew a foul while going up for a three-point attempt in the final second of regulation. The Austin, Texas, native sank two of her three free throws to secure the win.

Cardenas led the Reddies' scoring efforts for a second consecutive game by posting 15 points in the victory. She has now scored 15 or more in three straight contests.

Brynlee Huggins tallied 14 points to reach double figures for the 17th time this season. She made three three-pointers on Saturday, bringing her GAC-leading total to 57 for the 2024-25 campaign.

Sam Basson extended her double-digit scoring streak to three with 13 points against the Savage Storm. The sophomore from Allen, Texas, also had three assists, marking the eighth time in her last 10 games that she has recorded three or more.

Bobbi Bazzle celebrated her birthday in grand fashion by collecting 14 rebounds: the most by an HSU player in a single game this season.

Marlee Raby contributed eight points and a team-leading two blocks versus Southeastern.

The Reddies will look to keep their win streak alive when they travel to Alva, Oklahoma, to face Northwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday, February 6. Tip-off at the Rangers' Percefull Fieldhouse is set for 5:30 p.m.
