Explosive Offense Paves Way for Reddie Win in Fort Smith

FORT SMITH, Ark.  -  Henderson State earned its second win in a row over Arkansas-Fort Smith on Tuesday. This time around, the Reddies defeated the Lions on their home turf at Crowder Field by a score of 18-9.

Fans of offense had plenty to cheer for in a game that featured a combined 27 runs, 27 hits, and seven home runs. The two teams traded the lead multiple times through the first seven innings, making it 9-9 heading into the top of the eighth. Over the span of the next two innings, the Reddies doubled their run total to leave Fort Smith with their second victory of the young season.

Jeremy Schork continued his dominance against the Lions, launching two home runs for a second straight game and driving in five runs. In doing, he became the first HSU player to post 10 RBI this season.

Luke Farrar collected three legs of the cycle in a three-for-five effort at UAFS. A first-inning RBI triple put the Reddies on top early. Two innings later, the senior from Calhoun, Louisiana, hit a solo homer to tie the game at four. Farrar recorded his final extra-base hit of the day with a double in the ninth. He walked once but never singled.

Austin Scritchfield reached base safely five times in six plate appearances. He walked twice and rounded all four bases on a two-run blast in the third. Scritchfield drove in another run with his third and final hit of the day - an RBI single in the eighth. Through four games, the senior boasts an on-base percentage of .647 to go along with a .929 slugging percentage.

Louis Holt finished the day with four RBI, beginning with a run batted in on a double to left center in the eighth. In the ninth, he closed out the game's scoring with a three-run home run.

Making his first start of the year, Julio Vazquez gave the Reddies the lead for good with a two-run single in the top of the eighth. He got on base three times and scored twice on Tuesday.

Dylan Block contributed with a three-hit performance - including one of HSU's three doubles on the day - and one run scored.

Cal Jones extended his multi-hit streak to four games with a two-hit outing. He drove in Louis Holt on an RBI single in the eighth inning.

On the mound, Luke Carter earned the win in relief after recording the final two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Tyler Bates and Caleb Wilson followed up by each recording a one-two-three inning to close out the game.

After passing its first road test of the year with flying colors, Henderson returns to Clyde Berry Field to host four games as a part of the 2025 HSU Invitational. The Reddies' first game of the weekend is against Emporia State, and it is set to begin at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 6.
