Reddies Wrap Up HSU Invitational with 5-3 Win

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.  —  Henderson State closed out the 2025 HSU Baseball Invitational on a high note with a 5-3 victory over Emporia State on Sunday.

After three-and-a-half scoreless innings, Alex Galvan broke the ice with a three-run blast in the bottom of the fourth. The Hornets responded with a couple of runs in the sixth, but the Reddies got one of those runs right back in the bottom half of the inning when Jeremy Schork scored on a wild pitch. Dylan Block added an insurance run by driving in Luke Farrar on a fielder's choice in the eighth. ESU plated one more run in the top of the ninth, but Payton Byrd entered the game and held the Hornets scoreless the rest of the way to lock down his first save of the year.

Ryan Galvan earned his first win of the season with four strikeouts and one earned run allowed through five innings of work.

Alex Galvan reached safely on three separate occasions, including two hits.

Cal Jones and Tripp Campbell joined Galvan in the multi-hit club with two each. Campbell recorded a double and a run to go along with his stellar defensive play in right field.

Schork got on base twice and scored both times.

HSU opens Great American Conference play against East Central at Clyde Berry Field on Friday, February 14. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
