Reddies Split Doubleheader, Clinch Series Against No. 18 Boll Weevils

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.  —  Henderson State earned a series win over No. 18 Arkansas-Monticello by splitting a doubleheader with the Boll Weevils on Saturday. The Reddies took game one by a score of 8-7, while UAM proved victorious in a 4-2 game two.

GAME ONE
After the Weevils claimed an early 2-0 lead, HSU put together an eight-run rally in the bottom of the third. Arkansas-Monticello responded with five unanswered runs in the final four innings of the contest, but Payton Byrd secured his fourth save of the season to help the Reddies clinch the series.

Cole Rodriguez claimed his second win of the season by striking out five batters and allowing one earned run (two total) in a five-inning outing. The senior from Tomball, Texas, has now recorded four consecutive starts of five or more innings with two or fewer earned runs allowed.

Jeremy Schork drove in Henderson's first run of the day on an RBI single.

Jaxson Gregg tied up the game with an RBI base hit of his own.

Austin Scritchfield helped the Reddies take the lead with an RBI walk.

Alex Galvan continued the rally with an RBI single to center field.

Dylan Block plated a run on yet another RBI base knock.

Cal Jones brought in both Scritchfield and Galvan with a two-run single. He also collected one of three HSU walks in the game.

Luke Farrar closed out the scoring in the bottom of the third via one last RBI base hit.

Tripp Campbell walked and scored once in the victory.

With the win, Henderson State claimed its second series win over UAM in three seasons.

GAME TWO
Jaxson Gregg homered for the second time in 2025 to give the Reddies a one-run advantage in the bottom of the second. Over the course of the next four innings, however, the Boll Weevils went on a 4-0 scoring run to take a three-run lead into the seventh inning. Cal Jones hit a solo home run in HSU's last trip to the plate, but UAM held Henderson State off the rest of the way to cement a 4-2 win for the visitors.

Luke Farrar recorded two hits to extend his hitting streak to seven games. During that streak, the senior second baseman has posted four multi-hit performances.

Tripp Campbell got on base twice in the loss.

Alex Galvan collected a single to bring his on-base streak to 16 contests.

ON DECK
The Reddies will hit the road on Tuesday, Mar. 4, for a midweek matchup at Delta State. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
