ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State put up a strong fight in Tuesday's doubleheader against Ouachita Baptist, showcasing resilience and grit in two tightly contested games.
Henderson State (12-9, 4-7 GAC) saw a classic pitcher's duel, with
Brooke Johnson delivering a determined performance in the circle. The senior hurler kept Ouachita Baptist (8-15, 2-7 GAC) off balance, surrendering just two runs while working efficiently through the lineup.
Mackenzie Williams provided a spark offensively, going 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base, while
Jay Albiter and
Hilary Akers each chipped in with hits.
Justine Burch showed patience at the plate, reaching base twice, including a hit-by-pitch but the Reddies struggled to put runs on the board late falling 2-0.
The second game of the day saw the Reddies break through offensively, racking up nine hits and keeping the pressure on into the late evening. Henderson State tied it early with an aggressive start, as Burch crossed the plate with the help of an error from OBU leading to
Mackenzie Williams scoring to give the Reddies a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Brooke Johnson continued her standout day on the offensive side, blasting a solo home run that electrified the dugout and kept Henderson within striking distance.
Macy Hoskins and Albiter each recorded multi-hit performances, while Williams and Akers added to the offensive effort with key base hits.
The Reddies' pitching staff—led by
Makenna Keeton and
Meagan Allen—battled to keep the game close, limiting damage and giving the offense a chance. Henderson continued to apply pressure late, but a couple of tough breaks proved to be the difference.
The Reddies will look to turn the page and build on these performances with another big GAC series this weekend versus Oklahoma Baptist, first pitch is set for 2 p.m. on Friday.
