SHAWNEE, Okla. — Oklahoma Baptist got a flurry of three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on Sunday to overcome a two-run Henderson State lead and salvage a game in the GAC weekend series, 8-7.
After winning the series with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday, the Reddies were in front for much of the afternoon on Sunday, claiming leads of 3-1, 5-2Â and 7-5, before watching the Bison rally to steal the finale on their home soil.
Jaxson Gregg was 3-for-5 at the plate with two home runs and two RBIs to lead HSU. Luke Farrar added two hits and drove in three runs on a home run in the third inning.Â
The Bison got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the second, but Farrar's big blast gave the Reddies a 3-1 advantage in the third. Henderson added single runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh to take a 7-5 lead into the bottom half of the seventh frame.
Back-to-back walks issued to OKBU to begin the bottom half of the inning came back to bite HSU as the Bison used two singles to score three runs and seize an 8-7 advantage — their first lead of the game since it was 1-0 in the second inning.
The Reddies moved the tying run into scoring position at second base in the eighth, but were unable to bring him home. Still trailing 8-7 in the top of the ninth, Tripp Campbell led the inning off with a single for HSU, but a strikeout and a game-ending double play sealed the victory for Oklahoma Baptist.
Henderson out-hit the Bison 12-7 in defeat. The Reddies, who have won three-straight GAC weekend series over regionally ranked opponents, will be back in action on Tuesday when they face Southern Arkansas in Magnolia at 6 p.m. for a non-conference contest.
