ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State used a pair of big innings and a dominant bullpen performance to take down Arkansas Tech 7–1 on Tuesday evening in midweek action at Clyde Berry Field.
After a quiet first three frames from both teams, the Reddies broke through in the bottom of the fourth. Taking advantage of an error and timely hitting, Alex Galvan delivered the big blow with a bases-clearing double down the left field line to give HSU a 3–1 lead—all runs unearned.
That would prove to be all the offense Henderson State needed, but they weren't done yet. The Reddies added four more insurance runs in the eighth inning, highlighted once again by Galvan, who capped a stellar night with a two-RBI single to finish 3-for-4 with five RBIs. Julio Vazquez also added an RBI double in the inning, and Tripp Campbell chipped in a sac fly.
On the mound, Henderson State's bullpen was lights-out. Caleb Wilson (2-0) earned the win with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, striking out one. In all, six Reddie pitchers combined to scatter eight hits while striking out 13 and walking just four. The staff held Arkansas Tech scoreless over the final five frames.
Despite collecting eight hits, the Wonder Boys struggled to capitalize. Their lone run came in the fourth on a balk that scored Sawyer Duddleston, who had doubled. They left 10 runners on base and struck out 13 times.
With the win, Henderson State improved to 24–18 on the season and 3-1 overall against the Wonder Boys.
HSU returns to Clyde Berry Field on Friday as they continue Great American Conference play against Southwestern Oklahoma State at 6 p.m.
