RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Henderson State rallied from an early deficit to tie its series opener with Arkansas Tech on Sunday, but the Wonder Boys scored three unanswered runs to pull away and defeat the Reddies 6-3.
Tripp Campbell went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Reddies offensively in the loss. Jeremy Schork hit his 11th home run of the season in the fourth inning, while both Alex Galvan and Luke Rice had hits that drove in runs for HSU.
Jack Haley took the loss after relieving starter Cole Rodriguez in the third. Haley allowed just two runs on five hits in 2.2 innings of work and struck out two Wonder Boy batters.
ATU jumped out 3-0 after two innings, but Henderson rallied for two runs in the fourth on Schork's home run and an RBI triple from Galvan.Â
An RBI single from Rice in the fifth tied the game at 3-3, but Tech scored two runs on a double in the bottom half of the frame and added another insurance run on a homer in the seventh.Â
The Reddies brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth after a single from Campbell and a walk from Louis Holt, but left both runners stranded to end the game.
Arkansas Tech out-hit Henderson 15-8 on the night and limited HSU to just one hit in the final three innings.
Henderson will look to bounce back tomorrow at 1 p.m. when they face the Wonder Boys again for a doubleheader at Tech Field.
