MANKATO, Minn. — The opening game of the 2025 Central sub-regional was an windy, offense-filled affair, one that Henderson State found themselves on the wrong end of, falling to Pittsburg (KS) State by a score of 18-5.
HSU now awaits either Arkansas-Monticello or Minnesota State in an elimination game scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, weather permitting. Stay tuned to hsusports.com and our social channels for any changes to game times.
The Reddies were active on the scoreboard early, as
Dylan Block avoided a tag at home plate to score on a
Nate Moore single in the second inning. Pitt State quickly answered back as Reddie starter
Ethan Roark walked the bases loaded and hit a batter; Roark was able to limit the damage to just one run in the inning.
Luke Farrar used leadoff speed to his advantage after reaching on a leadoff single in the second inning. He then stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and eventually scored on a
Jeremy Schork double to give HSU the lead back. The Gorillas then walked a leadoff batter to chase Roark, then singled, doubled two runs home, and hit a two run home run to take a lead they would never surrender.
Pitt State scored run in every inning except for the sixth. The Reddies were able to put more runs on the board using the long ball, as
Luke Rice hit a solo shot in the fifth and Block hit a two run home run in the sixth.
Tyler Bates (1-1) was charged with the loss for Henderson State. Farrar, Rice, and
Jaxson Gregg each collected two hits on the day. Block, Rice, and Schork each had RBI on the day.
