ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State opened a 2-match home stand tonight against the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State. The Reddies pulled out a 3-1 win in four sets.
The Reddies (10-10, 4-4) were led tonight by
Lasheena Gooseberry, who had 10 kills on the night, with
Kelis Battles logging eight.
Tyhia Mack and
Alyssa Lindeman collected 20 assists each on the night. Defensively,
Kaylon Partain had 33 digs on the night, while Battles and
Berkeley Berry each had 15 and 11 respectively.
Cassidi Campbell logged five blocks on the night, including three solo.

Henderson State opened the match with an early back-and-forth exchange before the Reddies managed to pull ahead 9-3. The Reddies continued to hold firm, extending their lead to 13-7 before the Savage Storm could rally back. Henderson State continued to put pressure, as two straight aces by Lindeman aided a 4-0 run to put the score to 21-13. While Southeastern was able to generate a few more points, the Reddies ended the first set with a 25-18 win.
The second set was controlled by the Savage Storm from the start, as they took a fast 5-0 lead. The pressure was kept up, with Southeastern pulling their lead to 8-3 before Henderson State could pull within two, sitting behind 8-6. Another run by the Savage Storm extended their lead to 12-6 and after exchanging several points, led 17-10. Another 5-0 run pulled their lead to 22-11. Henderson couldn't muster a rally and fell in the second set 25-13.
The third set was a hotly contested start, with the Reddies taking a small lead 7-4. Then, the Savage Storm rattled off a 6-0 run to take the lead 10-7. What followed was a series of runs, with the Reddies taking the lead 12-10 off a 5-0 run, then Southeastern used another 6-0 run to take the lead 16-12. Another back-and-forth affair continued from there, with both teams exchanging points, until the Savage Storm led 20-17. A 3-0 run tied it for Henderson State, before the score sat tied 24-24. Going into extra points, the Reddies rattled off two straight points to win the third set 26-24.
Henderson State took an early lead in the final set, including an ace by Partain to lead 4-1. Both teams maintained a competitive scoring pattern until the score sat tied at 14 apiece. A 3-0 run bolstered the Reddie offense and they pushed into the lead, leading 20-16.
Calee Carter and Gooseberry aided in another 3-0 run to put the Reddies within the match win 24-19. A late rally by the Savage Storm brought the score to 24-22, but Gooseberry secured the final kill of the night, and won the set, and the match, 25-22.
