Red Wave Sweep Delta State in Home Meet

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — The Henderson State Red Wave swept Delta State in a dual meet Saturday, Nov. 7, with the men's team earning a 204-53 victory and the women's team claiming a 143-96 win.

Henderson State won 22 of the meet's 28 events, including all 14 men's events and eight women's events. The Red Wave also recorded first-place finishes in both men's relays.

River Paulk, Curtis Malone, Colin Candebat, Colton Bennett and Bona Benedek led the men's team with two individual victories apiece.

Paulk swept the sprint freestyle events, winning the 50-yard freestyle in 20.52 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 45.03. He also anchored both winning relay teams.

Malone claimed victories in the 100 backstroke (49.81) and 200 backstroke (1:50.46), while Candebat swept the butterfly events with times of 49.61 in the 100 and 1:51.39 in the 200.

Bennett led a sweep of the top three scoring positions in the 1,650 freestyle, finishing in 16:15.03. Bartu Akin placed second in 16:27.57, followed by Emiliano Pina in 16:45.16. Bennett added a victory in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:43.03, edging teammate Benedek by nine-hundredths of a second.

Benedek won the 200 freestyle in 1:38.07, with Mate Hosszu taking second in 1:41.30. Gavin Kock added a victory in the 200 breaststroke (2:06.01), while Avery Henke won the 100 breaststroke (56.73).

Hunter Rytting broke the four-minute mark in the 400 individual medley, winning the event in 3:59.58. Rytting finished more than eight seconds ahead of Delta State's Emilio Garcia.

The Red Wave opened the men's competition with a victory in the 200 medley relay. Fabio Capocci, Henke, Noel Kis and Paulk combined for a time of 1:30.78. Henderson State's second relay team finished second in 1:31.97.

Henderson State closed the meet with another relay victory as Benedek, Kock, Kis and Paulk won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:22.60, finishing ahead of Delta State's 1:23.27.

On the women's side, Joanna Miller led the Red Wave with victories in the 200 and 500 freestyle events. Miller won the 200 in 1:57.55, followed by teammate Iris McNamara in 1:58.06. Miller added a victory in the 500 with a time of 5:21.90, with McNamara placing second in 5:24.08.

Emma Crowe claimed the 100 backstroke in 56.17, finishing ahead of Delta State's Nicolette Wight, who touched in 57.55.

Audrey Cash won the 50 freestyle in 24.01, while Shelby Travis placed second in 25.01. Cash also finished second in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:46.92.

Emily Hand led a sweep of the top three positions in the 100 freestyle, winning in 54.57. Travis followed in 54.78, while Norah Woody placed third in 55.62.

Ava Carosielli earned a victory in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:11.58, edging Wight by nine-tenths of a second. Helen Pope finished third in 2:17.69. Pope also won the 200 butterfly in 2:17.95, with Delaney Smith finishing second in 2:31.85.

The Red Wave women added a pair of second-place finishes in the relay events. Crowe, Monroe Chittum, Miller and Cash finished the 200 medley relay in 1:46.21, while Miller, Travis, Hand and Cash combined for a time of 1:37.95 in the 200 freestyle relay.

Henderson State's men's team recorded 11 individual victories in addition to its two relay wins, with the Red Wave taking the top three scoring positions in several events. The women's team collected eight individual victories to complete the sweep of Delta State.
