Reddies to Hit the Road, Take on Weevils

2025-26 Men's Basketball Game Notes

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- Reddie men's basketball is set for a Saturday afternoon matchup with Arkansas-Monticello. Tipoff from Steelman Fieldhouse is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

Henderson State ended a four-game homestand Thursday night with a 66-60 loss to Ouachita Baptist. The Reddies went 1-3 on the stretch and now begin a four-game road trip, which includes Saturday's contest in Monticello. A GAC Tournament berth is still at stake, with eight teams still contending for the final four seeds in the tournament.

HSU had three players score in double figures in Thursday night's loss, but could not find a way to close out the game. The Reddies led by two with 40 seconds remaining, but a pair of fastbreak dunks were blocked by the Tigers, who capitalized with a three-point field goal to take the lead before clinching the game with late free throws.

The Reddies played solid defense against the league's best team, holding the Tigers to just 40 percent from the field, but could not stop clutch shooting from the perimeter. Ouachita made 10 of its 20 attempts from deep, including a five-of-seven night from guard Devon Hancock, who sank the go-ahead three pointer with 47 seconds remaining in the game.

Henderson boasts the third-best three-point field goal percentage in the Great American Conference, but ranks last in the league in three-point shooting percentage and made three-point field goals, amassing just 92 made long-range baskets.

Scouting Arkansas-Monticello

Arkansas-Monticello, like the Reddies, are hoping to attain one of the final four spots in the GAC Tournament. UAM has not made the conference tournament since 2024, when they earned the five-seed but lost in the opening round to Southern Nazarene.

The Weevils and Reddies both come into Saturday's game with a three-game losing streak. UAM lost Thursday's contest to Southern Arkansas by a final of 80-65.

UAM features the league's worst scoring offense and the third-best scoring defense. The team yields just 66.7 points a game, but only scores 64.7 points on a nightly basis. The Weevils' field goal percentages both rank in the middle of the pack in the league. Guard Isaac Jackson is the fourth-best scorer in the GAC this season with 15.1 points per game, just ahead of Henderson's Zaveion Okoh.

Last Meeting: Henderson State erased an eight-point deficit and leaned on its interior dominance to edge Arkansas-Monticello 66-64 at the Duke Wells Center. The Reddies navigated a tightly contested game that featured six ties and seven lead changes, turning the tide with timely runs and a decisive advantage in the paint. Henderson State outscored UAM 42-14 inside.
