Errors Cost Reddies in 6-5 Loss to Southeastern

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State built an early lead but could not hold off Southeastern Oklahoma State University in a 6-5 loss Friday at Clyde Berry Field.

The Reddies (5-4, 0-4 GAC) scored three runs in the second inning and finished with 13 hits, but four errors and 13 runners left on base proved costly as Southeastern (6-4, 3-1) scored in five of the final six innings.

Henderson State took control in the second. Cooper McClure reached on an error before Adam Garcia singled down the left-field line. Boe Rodriguez followed with a base hit to center to load the bases. Cale Edmonds lifted a sacrifice fly to center to open the scoring, and Nate Moore drove a double down the left-field line to bring home two runs for a 3-0 edge.

Southeastern answered in the fourth when Carter Olson hit a two-run home run to center, cutting the lead to 3-2.

The Reddies added a run in the fifth. Tripp Campbell drew a walk and moved into scoring position on a single by McClure. After Garcia was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Rodriguez delivered a single to right that scored Campbell and pushed the margin to 4-2.

Southeastern tied the game in the sixth. A hit batter and a throwing error put pressure on the Reddies before Jacob Ambriz drove in a run with a walk. The Savage Storm added an unearned run in the seventh when Isaac Villa doubled and later scored on a throwing error at first.

Rodriguez brought Henderson State within 5-4 in the seventh with a solo home run to center, his third of the season. He finished 4 for 5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Moore added two hits and two RBIs, and Tanner Ross collected two hits.

Southeastern extended the lead in the eighth on an RBI single from Ryan Kirk and added an insurance run in the ninth on a groundout by Jax Heid.

The Reddies threatened in the ninth when Rodriguez doubled with one out, but a flyout and a strikeout ended the game.

Ethan Roark struck out 10 over 5 1/3 innings for Henderson State, allowing three runs on just three hits. Tyler Bates (0-1) took the loss in relief. Cody Pfeffer earned the win for Southeastern with five innings of relief.
