BETHANY, Okla. – The Reddies continued their road trip in Bethany, Oklahoma today, coming out with a strong win 74-59 against the Crimson Storm, and
Brynlee Huggins earned her 1000th career point.
The Henderson State (15-9, 11-9) offense was led by
Natalie Cardenas who bounced back, scoring 20 points.
Brynlee Huggins scored 16 points for the Reddies, while
Jayla Lewis added 15.
Grayson Fairless led Henderson with seven rebounds, Cardenas added four. Cardenas distributed the ball well, recording five assists, while Lewis had four. On the defensive side, Huggins recorded two blocks, while Cardenas and
Marlee Raby each had three steals.

In the first quarter, the Crimson Storm took an early lead, 6-2 in the first five minutes. SNU continued to put up points, holding HSU scoreless until a layup by Raby held the score at 16-4 with 36 seconds left in the first quarter. A three by
Sam Basson as time expired ensured the Reddies trailed by only seven points going into the second quarter, 16-7.
The Reddies got the momentum going in the second quarter, as Cardenas sank a three to narrow the lead to eight points, and then Fairless added a layup to bring the score to 18-12. Huggins made two threes to put the Reddies within five and then sunk another three to bring the score to 25-21 with five minutes left in the half. SNU continued to protect their lead, but two straight scores by the Reddies led them to trail only by one point going into the final minute, and Cardenas scored another three to take the lead for Henderson State 30-28 going into halftime.
The last second three was the momentum changer, as coming out of the half, the Reddies continued to score, as in the first three minutes, the Reddies extended their lead to 38-30. SNU kept it close for most of the third quarter and eventually tied it 42-42 with 2:11 left in the third. The Crimson Storm continued to fight and recaptured the lead with 53 seconds left in the quarter, 47-45. A driving layup by Cardenas and one more retook the lead for Henderson State going into the final quarter, 48-47.
SNU managed to retake the lead within the first minute, but it was Reddie Basketball the rest of the way, as Henderson State outscored SNU 26-10 in the fourth quarter to win the game 74-59. Fairless recaptured the lead with a layup, and Lewis led the fourth quarter surge, scoring 12 of the 26 points for Henderson State. The Reddies shot 83.3 percent from the field during the fourth quarter, while holding Southern Nazarene to only 31.3 percent from the field. They also kept it clean, only giving up four personal fouls, while forcing SNU to commit nine.
