ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Reddies continued their home stand against Southwestern Oklahoma State today, ultimately falling 57-73.
The Henderson State (11-8, 7-8) offense tonight was led by
Natalie Cardenas and
Grayson Fairless, who scored 16 points each. They were followed by
Jayla Lewis and
Brynlee Huggins who scored 11 and nine respectively. Cardenas led the Reddies with seven rebounds, while Fairless and Lewis each had five. Cardenas was the main distributor for the Reddies, adding two assists, while
Marlee Raby had one. Defensively, Cardenas recorded two blocks tonight, while Fairless led with two steals.
Game Recap
The Reddies struggled to get started on offense, as SWOSU took a 12-0 lead before Henderson State could get on board. Lewis scored six, while Huggins scored two, and the Reddies trailed 16-8 going into the second quarter.
The Bulldogs struck first to start the second, scoring five straights to extend their lead to 20-8. The Reddies managed to narrow the lead to 28-12. With five minutes left, the Reddies outscored SWOSU 8-4 to finish the first half trailing 32-21.
The third, the Reddies began to climb back into the game, but SWOSU held a 39-25 lead with 7:40 left. In the last five minutes, Henderson State outscored the Bulldogs 15-12, but couldn't use that momentum to recapture the lead, as they trailed 57-41 going into the final quarter.
The Reddies continued to push going into the fourth, outscoring SWOSU in the first five minutes 10-2 trailing only by eight points 59-51. SWOSU responded by pushing ahead 64-53, and didn't give up the lead the rest of the game, as they outscored Henderson State 9-4 in the last five minutes, and ultimately won the game 73-57.
