Akers Home Run Secures Reddie Series Win in Alva

ALVA, Okla. - The Reddies (18-24, 9-15) secured the series win against Northwestern Oklahoma State in the lone game today, defeating the Rangers 5-3.

The Rangers got on the board first, scoring a run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead, then extended their lead to 3-0 after scoring two more runs in the third before Henderson State answered in the fourth inning.

Tatum Bittick reached first off a an error by the Rangers, then stole second to put a runner in scoring position. A flyout by Sam Flores advanced Bittick to third, before Josie Golden hit a double to center to score Bittick. Another double by Jay Albiter scored Golden, and the Reddies trailed only 3-2.

Henderson State held Northwestern Scoreless for the last four innings, before eventually securing the win during the seventh. Jay Albiter bunted a single to open the inning, putting the first runner on base. Paige Brandes hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Albiter to second, before Mazzi Jones walked to put runners on first and second. Hilary Akers then homered to left field to score the go ahead runs and give Henderson State a 5-3 lead. The Reddies held the Rangers scoreless at the bottom of the seventh to win the game and claim the series.

The Reddies scored five runs on six hits, with Hilary Akers recording a home run and 3 RBIs. Jay Albiter went 2-3 with a double and an RBI. Lacey Kelley earned the start for the Reddies, pitching three innings and giving up three runs on five hits, before Jersey Cabana (9-10) earned the win after pitching the remaining four innings, holding the Rangers scoreless and giving up only three hits and recording a strikeout.

Henderson State return home to host a non-conference mid-week doubleheader against the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday, April 14th. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. at Dee White Field.
