RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The Reddies (14-22, 7-13) travelled to Russelliville to face the Golden Suns of Arkansas Tech in a doubleheader today. Henderson State fell in both games, 9-1 in game one, then 3-1 in game two.
Game One: Henderson State 1, Arkansas Tech 9
The Golden Suns took an early lead in game one, scoring three unanswered runs in the first two innings before Henderson State could respond. In the third inning,
Hilary Akers singled to get a runner on base, before advancing to second after
Josie Golden walked.
Aspyn Beattie hit into a fielder's choice which scored Akers.
This ended up being the lone run for the Reddies in the first game, as Arkansas Tech held them scoreless the rest of the way, and ultimately won the game 9-1.
The Reddies mustered one run on two hits.
Hilary Akers went 1-3 with the lone run, while
Sam Flores hit a double.
Jersey Cabana (6-9) earned the start, giving up six runs on seven hits in four innings of work. She recorded three strikeouts and no walks, while
Avery Howard came in relief and recorded a strikeout.
Game Two: Henderson State 1, Arkansas Tech 3
In game two, Henderson State was the first to strike, scoring their lone run in the fourth inning. A single and stolen base by
Tatum Bittick put the runner in scoring position, before
Jay Albiter walked.
Paige Brandes hit a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners, then
Macy Hoskins walked to load the bases. A ground out by
Mazzi Jones scored Bittick.
Arkansas Tech scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth, then another in the sixth inning, while holding the Reddies scoreless to secure the win 3-1.
