DADE CITY, Flo. – The Reddies continued the Triton/Lion Invite with two more matches today, facing host Eckerd College, falling 3-1 and Franklin Pierce, who they swept 3-0.
Kelis Battles continues to lead the Reddies offensively, as she led the team with 31 kills, while
Lasheena Gooseberry added 17.
Tyhia Mack was the main distributer, logging 36 assists on the day.
Kaylon Partain was the leader in the back court, collecting 41 digs, while Battles continues to work both sides of the net, collecting 26. At the net,
Cassidi Campbell recorded six total blocks, while
Karsen Hart supplied five total blocks.
3-1 Loss vs. Eckerd College
The Reddies took an early lead in the first set, charging ahead 9-3 before the Tritons could muster any sort of offense. Eckerd added two more points, but a kill by Hart and a service ace by Battles pushed the Reddie lead to 12-5. Henderson continued to control the pace of the set, not letting Eckerd earn more than one point before they scored another. Two consecutive kills by Campbell and Gooseberry set the score to 16-7, then the Tritons finally mustered some form of offense and narrowed the lead to 16-10. This opened the scoring, and both teams exchanged points before Eckerd stormed back and pulled to set point, 24-22. While the Reddies managed to equalize, the Tritons scored the last two points to claim set one 26-24.
The start of set two was much more tightly contested, with both teams exchanging points quickly, before a 4-0 run by the Reddies took a 7-5 lead. The back and forth continued, with both teams keeping it within one point, when Battles secured two kills, with Partain earning an ace, Henderson pulled ahead 14-9. The rest of the set continued to be a stream of runs by the Reddies and Eckerd struggling to keep up before a 5-0 run by the Tritons pulled the score to 19-17. Henderosn held off the comeback and stood 21-19 before they used a 4-0 run to win the set 25-19.
Eckerd was in control of the entirety of the third set, pulling ahead early 8-4. The Tritons kept up the pressure, extending their lead to 12-5, 16-6, and then 20-7. While the Reddies were able to pull the score to 22-12, but couldn't hang on as the Tritons won three straight points to secure set 3, 25-12.
The final set got off to a hot start for the Reddies, as three service aces from
Alyssa Lindeman, two kills by Campbell and
Shiloh Jones aided in an 11-2 advantage for Henderson. The Reddies continued to push, holding the lead at 14-5, but a 7-0 run by Eckerd pulled them within two, with the score at 14-12. Another 4-0 run by the Tritons tied it 17-17, before two points for the Reddies put them in the lead 19-17. Unfortunately, Eckerd continued to set up runs, using a 5-0 run to take the lead 22-19. Unfortunately for the Reddies, Eckerd refused to give up the lead for the rest of the set, and finished the match with a 25-20 win.
3-0 Win vs. Franklin Pierce
Henderson State and Franklin Pierce traded points early, with both teams staying within one point before the Reddies used a 3-0 run to take the lead 8-5. While the Ravens stayed in it, the Reddies refused to give up the lead, and led 14-9. Both teams exchanged points, when the Ravens pulled the score to 22-18. The Reddies held firm and scored three straight points to secure set one 25-18.
The back-and-forth scoring opened the same way in the second set, with the score tied 4-4. The Reddies opened the set with a 5-0 run to take a 9-4 lead and managed to hold firm until a 3-0 run by Franklin Pierce tied the match 12-12. Henderson tried to pull away, but the Ravens were persistent, tying it up once again 14-14, but then a 4-0 run by the Reddies pulled the lead to 18-14. This secured the set for the Reddies, as while Franklin Pierce tried to muster a comeback, the Reddies stood firm and eventually them off, winning set two 25-20.
Like with the two previous sets, set three opened with both teams keeping it even, with the Reddies holding a narrow 7-5 lead. The lead stayed narrow, as the Ravens continued to stay in the set, but the Reddies managed to hold them off from tying the score, holding a one point lead several times. The set finally opened when a 6-0 run by the Reddies gave them a 19-10 lead. Franklin Pierce couldn't secure any sort of comeback and the Reddies cruised to a 25-14 win, securing the match.

The Reddies will stay on the road, as they will head to Magnolia, Arkansas to face Southern Arkansas for the second GAC matchup of the season. The match is scheduled for 6:00 P.M on Tuesday September 15th in the WT Watson Athletic Center.
