ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State finished the Reddie-Tiger Classic with a clean sweep, defeating LeMoyne-Owen College 3-0, and then defeating Arkansas-Pine Bluff 3-0.
Henderson State's
Lasheena Gooseberry led the Reddies with 10 kills on the day, while
Kelis Battles and
Calee Carter each added on nine.
Tyhia Mack continues to contribute, recording 23 assists, while
Alyssa Lindeman added 15. Defensively, the Reddies were led by
Kaylon Partain with 26 digs, while Battles followed with 22. At the net,
Cassidi Campbell recorded nine blocks, and Gooseberry had six.
3-0 vs. LeMoyne-Owen
The Reddies took a quick lead behind two service aces from Mack, while Carter and Gooseberry added a kill and a pair of blocks. LeMoyne-Owen eventually cut the deficit to 10-6, but the Reddies answered with three straight points and never allowed the Magicians to get within striking distance again. Carter delivered kills at 20-6 and 23-10, and
Sawyer Cook closed the set with a kill for a 25-10 Henderson State victory.
LeMoyne-Owen took an early 1-0 lead, but Henderson State quickly settled in. The Reddies moved ahead 9-6 and later stretched the margin to 18-13. Henderson State used kills from Gooseberry,
Karsen Hart and Cook to maintain control before taking a 24-18 lead.
Meadow Jones finished the set with a kill, giving the Reddies a 25-18 win and a 2-0 advantage.
The Magicians stayed closer early, with the score tied at 10-10. Henderson State then built a 17-13 advantage behind kills from Battles and Carter and an ace from Partain. LeMoyne-Owen pulled within 21-18, but the Reddies scored the final four points. Henderson State got an attack error from LeMoyne-Owen, followed by another error, before Mack's final two points closed out the 25-18 set and the sweep.
3-0 vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff
Henderson State dominated from the opening serve, racing to a 7-0 lead behind three consecutive aces from Mack. The Reddies continued to pressure the Golden Lions with blocks from Campbell and Gooseberry before building an 18-5 advantage. Henderson State scored seven of the final eight points, with
Melia Smith and Hart providing late kills, and Hart finished the set with a kill for a 25-5 victory.
UAPB scored the first point, but Henderson State quickly took control. The Reddies turned a 1-1 tie into an 8-3 lead before extending the margin to 14-4. Henderson State then closed the set on an 11-2 run. Gooseberry and Campbell supplied consecutive kills during the surge, while Henderson State's block helped keep UAPB off balance. Cook ended the set with a kill for a 25-9 win and a 2-0 lead.
UAPB finally found its rhythm and battled Henderson State throughout the final set. The Golden Lions led 9-5 before the Reddies answered with four consecutive points, including two kills from Smith and an ace from Battles, to tie the set at 9. The teams remained within a point of each other through 18-18. Henderson State then gained a 22-19 lead behind a kill from Carter and an attack error by UAPB. After the Golden Lions pulled within 22-21, Mack delivered a kill, Campbell's block forced an attack error and a final UAPB setting error gave Henderson State a 25-21 victory and the full sweep for the day.
