Scottie Schmidt begins his third season as the assistant women’s basketball coach at Henderson State in 2021-22.
In his first year as the lead assistant with the Reddies, Schmidt assisted head coach Jill Thomas in guiding Henderson to 20 wins and a berth in the GAC Tournament semifinals. During the COVID-19 complicated 2020-21 campaign, Schmidt helped lead a young Reddies team to a second-place finish in the GAC Eastern Division and a first-round bye in the GAC Tournament.
Prior to joining the staff in Arkadelphia, Schmidt spent nearly two years at DME Sports Academy in Daytona Beach, Florida, where he served as the assistant director for girls basketball, as well as the team’s video coordinator.
During his time in Florida, Schmidt was the head coach of DME’s Silver AAU team, an assistant for the high school varsity team and oversaw the videoing and highlight breakdowns of over 60 players. In addition to on-court responsibilities, Schmidt played a lead role in recruiting for DME and was also in charge of daily operations such as travel and scheduling. While at DME, Schmidt and the staff led the program to the 2019 SIAA Conference Championship and helped place six players on rosters at the collegiate level, including four who received DI scholarships.
A 2017 graduate of the University of Alabama, Schmidt spent a year as a student assistant for the Crimson Tide’s women’s team in 2015-16. In his time with the SEC program, Schmidt assisted in daily practice activities, organized player schedules, compiled hustle stats and was in charge of preparing the gym for practices and games. Schmidt played a role in one of the biggest wins in program history when he prepared scout team for the Crimson Tide’s first ever victory over perennial-power Tennessee.
A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Schmidt holds a bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science from Alabama.
