REDDIES USE BALANCED SCORING TO BEAT OBU 90-81

Henderson State used a balanced scoring attack to beat Ouachita Baptist 90-81, Thursday in the Southern Bancorp Battle of the Ravine at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia, Ark.

Six Reddies scored in double figures with Andrew Ensley leading the way with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

OBU, 13-12 overall and 9-10 in the Great American Conference, led for much of the first half before the Reddies ended the stanza on a 10-0 run.

Trailing 39-35 with 2:55 remaining in the first-half, Ensley hit one of two free throws before Taylor Smith tied the game with a 3-point field goal at the 1:17 mark.

Following a missed layup by Micah Delph and a Cory Henshaw rebound, Joe McCoy put the Reddies on top with a traditional three-point play.

Again the Tigers were unable to score on their next possession as Eric Braeuer missed a layup and the Reddies got the ball back with 8 seconds left.
Henshaw then set the tone for the remainder of the game as the 6-foot-8-inch forward hit his first 3-pointer of the season as the buzzer sounded to put Henderson on top 45-39.

Henderson led the entire second-half and was able to put the game away at the end with some clutch free-throw shooting.  

Henderson State totaled 34 points in the paint but more importantly was able to get some solid perimeter shooting as the Reddies totaled a season-high 11 3-point field goals and shot 55 percent from beyond the arc.

Melvin Haynes scored 16 points for the Reddies, sinking four treys while dishing out four assists.

Three Reddies scored 13 points each including Smith, Henshaw and Matt Nicholson. Henshaw and Nicholson controlled the inside game with Henshaw having nine rebounds while Nicholson had eight boards.

McCoy also scored in double-figures having 11 points to go along with 4 assists.

OBU was led by Austin Mitchell's 20 points, while Julian Laday scored 13.

The Reddies outrebounded the Tigers 40 to 26, with Henderson scoring 16 second chance points.

Henderson ended the game shooting 52 percent from the floor converting on 30-of-58 field goal attempts, while OBU was 29-of-59 for 44 percent.

Henderson will close out the regular-season at home on Saturday when  the Reddies play host to Southern Arkansas at the Duke Wells Center with tipoff set for 4 p.m.
