TAMC USES BIG SECOND HALF TO BEAT REDDIES 91-61

Texas A&M-Commerce used a huge second-half outscoring Henderson State by 24 points as the Reddies lost 91-61, Friday in Commerce, Texas.

The Lions, 9-2 on the season, dominated the inside game outrebounding the Reddies 51 to 30 while scoring 44 points in the paint.

Henderson State, 6-5 on the year, held a 12-11 lead early in the first-half as Rashad Perkins, playing in his first game of the season got an easy layup off a pass from Micah Walker.

Texas A&M-Commerce then went on a 10-2 run over the next three minutes to take a 21-14 lead with the help of a pair of 3-point field goals by Eddie Leal.

Walker then hit back-to-back treys to cut the deficit to 21-20 with 7:41 left in the opening half.

The Lions pushed their lead back to six before the Reddies surged to take a 30-29 lead with1:37 left before the break.

Kelvin Dixon scored six of his first-half seven points during the run with Reggie Murphy sinking one of two free throws to put Henderson on top.

However, the Lions responded quickly as J.R. Owens hit a pair of long-range jumpers to put the home team on top 38-32 at the break.

Texas A&M Commerce came out on fire to start the second half pushing their lead to 50-36 at the 15:22 mark as the Lions hit five of their first six shots. LaDon Carnegie was instrumental during the run scoring 8 of his game-high 23 points for the game.

From that point on, the Lions went on to control the second half outscoring the Reddies 45 to 25 with the help of 50 percent shooting from the field while the Reddies were limited to 37 percent shooting, making 11-of-30 field goals.

Walker led the Reddies with 18 points and 7 rebounds, while Kevin Kozan totaled 12 points and Perkins with 10.

The Lions also benefitted from the foul line as TAMC made 25-of-33 with the Reddies shooting just 12 freebies, making 7.

The Reddies will break for the holidays before returning to action on Jan. 3, 2015 when they travel to Magnolia, Ark. to face Southern Arkansas in Great American Conference action beginning at 4 p.m.
