Henderson State overcame a second-half deficit to beat Texas College 73-66, Saturday at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia.
Trailing 50-45 midway through the second half, the Reddies went on a 13-1 run behind solid free throw shooting along with Eric Daily scoring six points during the surge to put Henderson on top 58-51.
The Reddies began the game jumping out to a 17-4 lead as
Kevin Kozan and
Ben Marello scored six points each in the opening six minutes.
Matt Panaggio would have a huge first half leading the Reddies with11 points and five rebounds.
Texas College, however, would slowly cut into the deficit with the help of a pair of 3-point field goals by Jayson Saldana and Tymeer Pierce's shooting from the foul line as he converted on all six attempts.
Despite the furious charge by the Steers, the Reddies held a 36-33 lead at the break.
Texas College would begin the second half hitting seven of its first nine shots from the field to take the 50-45 lead before Henderson's big run.
The Steers would get no closer as Henderson made five of its seven shots from the field with Panaggio scoring eight points down the stretch.
Kozan led Henderson with 21 points, while Panaggio added a career-high 19 points to go along with 7 rebounds.
Daily and Marello also scored in double-figures with both scoring 11 points. Daily dished out four assists while Marello also had seven rebounds.
The Reddies shot 48 percent from the field making 23-of-48 attempts from the field, while the Henderson defense limited Texas College to 36 percent shooting making 23-of-64 attempts.
Henderson State will next play host to Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday, Dec. 19 with tipoff in the Duke Wells Center set for 1 p.m.
