The Henderson State women's basketball team shot just 32 percent from the field as Texas A&M-Commerce beat the Reddies 73-61 in non-conference play Saturday in Commerce, Texas.
Henderson State, 5-5 on the season, made just 19-of-60 shots from the field and committed 14 turnovers leading to 20 points for the Lions.
The Reddies jumped out to a 16-9 lead by the end of the first quarter as
Victoria Stewart and
Haleigh Henson both had a pair of 3-point field goals. The Henderson defense limited TAMC to just three field goals in 17 attempts in the quarter.
The Lions came surging back in the second quarter outscoring the Reddies 14 to 7 to tie the score at 23-23 at the break.
Henderson would hold a narrow 45-43 lead after three quarters as
Dulincia Keener scored six points in the frame with Stewart hitting a pair of free throws to put the Reddies on top.
The fourth quarter belonged to Texas A&M-Commerce as the Lions caught fire hitting 13-of-17 field goals in the period, outscoring Henderson 30 to 16 in the quarter.
The Reddies could not keep up with the Lions as they converted on just 3-of-14 field goal attempts.
Henderson State was led by Stewart who had 19 points including making 5-of-9 from the 3-point arc. Stewart also had nine rebounds.
Keener totaled 13 points and 6 rebounds while Henson added 11.
Henderson will break for the holidays and return to action on January 7 when the Reddies travel to Weatherford, Okla. to face Southwestern Oklahoma in Great American Conference action.
