Southwestern Oklahoma used a 62-point second half to rally to beat Henderson State 97-87, Thursday in women's basketball action in Weatherford, Okla.
Henderson State, 5-6 overall and 4-1 in Great American Conference play, managed to shoot 37 percent from the field (15-of-41) in the final 20 minutes while SWOSU hit on 19-of-31 from the field for a sizzling 61 percent in the half.
Southwestern Oklahoma jumped out to a 4-0 lead to begin while the Reddies missed their first eight shots from the field.
However, Henderson went on an 11-0 run behind a 3-point field goal by
Victoria Stewart and layups by
Dulincia Keener,
Brittany Branum and
Moe Bedford.
The Reddies pushed their lead to 26-14 at the conclusion of the first quarter as Haliegh Henson and Stewart hit a pair of 3-pointers down the stretch.
Henderson would build a 17-point lead with 4:26 to play in the half behind the inside play of Keener who had 8 points and 7 rebounds in the first half.
Torrie Thompson had an aggressive half scoring 7 points while
Moe Bedford had a pair of driving buckets.
SWOSU, however, was able to cut Henderson's lead to 43-35 at the break before the Bulldogs caught fire in the second half.
Six players scored in double-figures led by Jennifer Williams with 25 points.
After having just one point in the first-half, Korina Chapman scored 16 points in the second half to finish with 17.
The Reddies were led by Keener who had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while
Torrie Thompson had a career-high 17 points.
Bedford added 15 points while Henson finished with 14.
The Reddies ended the night hitting 31-of-84 shots from the floor for 37 percent, while SWOSU shot 44 percent converting on 30-of-69 attempts.
Henderson State returns to action on Saturday when the Reddies travel to Alva, Okla. to face Northwestern Oklahoma with tip-off set for 1 p.m.
