Reddies Lose To Stephen F. Austin 87-54

Henderson State faced a very talented Stephen F. Austin team with the Division I Lumberjacks beating the Reddies 87-54, Tuesday in Nacogdoches, Texas.

The young Reddie team went up against a veteran Lumberjack squad that has won the past two Southland Conference titles and compiled over 60 wins the previous two seasons.

Matt Panaggio hit the first two buckets of the game for Henderson State as the Reddies jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead.

Stephen F. Austin would take an 18-14 lead behind the play of preseason All-American Thomas Walkup and Demetrius Floyd. The Lumberjacks then went on a 11-0 run to push the lead to 29-14 at the 6:27 mark in the opening half.

The Reddies had troubles with the stingy SFA defense as Henderson committed 15 turnovers in the half and converted on just 8-of-23 shots from the field for 35 percent shooting.

SFA took advantage of the Reddie miscues scoring 18 points while shooting 42 percent making 17-of-41 attempts from the field to build a 41-18 halftime advantage.

Henderson began to heat up in the second half shooting 50 percent from the field (13-of-26) but the halftime deficit was too much to overcome.

Kevin Kozan led the Reddies with 10 points and four rebounds. Tavian Pomlee followed with 9 points and 6 boards. Eric Dailey and Can Ulker totaled 6 points each,.

SFA was led by Floyd who scored 26 points while Clide Geffrard scored 13 points.

Henderson finished the game hitting 21-of-49 shots from the floor for 43 percent shooting, while SFA hit on 34-of-76 attempts for 45 percent.

Henderson returns home on Saturday to take on Texas College with the opening tip set for 4 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center.
