HSU Women Fall to Southern Arkansas 78-70

Henderson State committed eight turnovers in the fourth quarter to help Southern Arkansas find its way to a 78-70 win over the Reddies, Thursday in Magnolia, Ark.
 
Henderson State, 6-7 overall and 5-2 in the Great American Conference, made just 3-of-12 field goals in the final 10 minutes while SAU scored 8 points off of Reddie miscues.
 
The Reddies woul d make the first run of the game to take a 7-2 lead sparked by a Haleigh Henson 3-point field goal.
 
With Henderson leading 13-8, Southern Arkansas would score 10 unanswered points as the Reddies missed their next four shots and committed four turnovers.
 
Dulincia Keener would end the drought with a layup off a steal by Victoria Stewart to make the score 18-15 with 1:36 to play in the opening quarter. SAU would go on to take a 22-17 advantage by the end of the quarter.
 
The Reddies would quickly tie the score at 24-24 as Stewart hit a 3-point field goal followed by a layup with Keener sinking a pair of free throws to begin the half.
 
The Muleriders would build a nine-point 43-34 late in the half before Moe Bedford hit a pair of free throws and Stewart score 11th point of the half to cut the deficit to 43-38 at the break.
 
Henderson outscored SAU 20-15 in the third quarter to tie the score at 58-58 entering the final period.
 
Both teams struggled to get on the board in the quarter before SAU scored seven straight to take a 65-58 lead midway through the period.
 
Stewart would end Henderson's scoring drought with a 3-pointer at the 5:01 mark, but SAU held off any threat of a Reddie rally making seven free throws down the stretch.
 
Henderson finished the game shooting 39 percent from the field making 22-of-60 field goals, while SAU converted on 33-of-74 for 45 percent.
 
Henson led Henderson with 19 points including making 4-of-12 from 3-point range.
 
Stewart finished with 17 points and 7 rebounds while Keener recorded her third straight double-double and sixth of the year with 12 points and 11. rebounds.
 
Henderson will wrap up its four game road swing as the Reddies travel to Monticello on Saturday to take on Arkansas-Monticello with tipoff set for 2 p.m.
