Henderson State shot just 33 percent from the field as Arkansas-Monticello beat the Reddies, 77-54 in Great American Conference women's basketball action in Monticello, Ark.
Henderson State, 6-8 overall and 5-3 in the GAC, struggled offensively in the second half making just 7-of-25 shots for 28 percent.
UAM took a 17-8 lead midway through the opening quarter as Jordan Goforth scored the first six points of the game with Cheridan Burroughs also having six points in the first five minutes.
A layup and free throw by
Lexis Weber and a jumper by
Dulincia Keener cut the deficit to 17-13 at the 3:39 mark, but Goforth scored the next seven points for the Blossoms to give UAM a 24-15 lead after the first quarter.
Henderson would open the second quarter going on a 12-2 run as Keener began things with a layup and one, followed by three straight 3-point field goals by
Haleigh Henson,
Victoria Stewart and
Torrie Thompson to give HSU a 27-26 lead.
UAM would answer finishing the half with a 9-0 run to take a 41-30 lead at the break.
The third quarter was plagued with fouls as UAM would build a 61-43 lead by the end of the period courtesy of making 11-of-13 shots from the foul line while Henderson would go to the line once making its only attempt.
In the final quarter, Henderson failed to score for the first seven minutes until
Brittany Branum got a breakaway layup at the 3:08 mark in the period to end a 12-0 run by the Blossoms.
The Reddies would make only 3-of-14 field goals in the period.
Keener finished the game with 19 points and 6 rebounds to lead the Reddies, while Stewart scored 9 points with Henson and Branum both having 6.
Goforth led UAM with 27 points, while Nikki Mullen added 12.
UAM was 24-of-56 for 43 percent and 6-of-16 from 3-point range.
Henderson had difficulties at the foul line as the Reddies made just 14-of-30 from the charity stripe for 47 percent, while UAM connected on 85 percent making 23-of-27 attempts.
The Reddies have a quick turnaround as Henderson returns home Monday to play host to Ouachita Baptist with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center.
