Henderson State could not overcome a strong first half performance from Ouachita, as the Reddies fell 92-72 to the Tigers in Great American Conference action Monday night at the Duke Wells Center.
HSU(3-11, 2-7 GAC) fell behind at the break 53-34 after Ouachita(7-8, 7-2 GAC) shot a blistering 63 percent from the field in the first half on 19-30 attempts, including 9-13 from the three-point line.
The Tigers' Lakee Westbrook had the hot hand in the first half as he would connect on all four of his three-point attempts, and finish the first half leading all scorers with 18 points.
Henderson State connected on 10-of-25 attempts in the first half for 40 percent, and shot 12-of-15 from the charity stripe.
Three Reddies scored in double-figures on the night, as
Kevin Kozan led the way with 19 points on 5-of-12 attempts from the field including 8-of-9 from the charity stripe.
Zydrunas Jugurtis pitched in 15 points on a perfect 6-of-6 from the field and 3-of-3 from three-point range, while
Kaylon Tappin contributed 10 points off the bench.
Henderson State was out-rebounded 36-to-20 in the contest, but forced 14 Ouachita turnovers while only committing eight and also connecting on 22-of-33 attempts from the free throw line.
The Reddies were outscored 34-to-18 in the paint, and the Tigers connected on 13-of-22 attempts from the three-point line to come away with the victory.
As a team, Henderson dished out nine assists, while Ouachita had 13.
Ouachita finished the game making 32-of-53 attempts from the field for 60 percent shooting, while Henderson State was 22-of-50 for 44 percent.
The Tigers were led by Westbrook as he finished with 26 points, while Justin McCleary pitched in 16 and Tirrell Brown had 15.
HSU returns to action on Thursday for a GAC matchup at the Duke Wells Center against Arkansas Tech, with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m.
