Henderson State could not overcome a strong shooting performance from Southern Nazarene, falling 73-61 in Great American Conference play on Thursday night at the Duke Wells Center.
The Reddies would fall behind at the break by a score of 34-23, and shot 32 percent from the field in the opening period making 9-of-28 attempts.
Henderson State cut the SNU lead to six at the 17:39 mark of the second half on a
Tavian Pomlee three-pointer, but SNU would answer with a 6-0 run of its own to push the lead back out to 12.
Southern Nazarene would maintain a 10-to-15 point cushion for the remainder of the game, as the Reddies connected on just 13 of their 31 attempts from the field in the second half.
Kaylon Tappin led the way for the Reddies on the night, as the sophomore scored 19 points on 6-of-11 attempts from the field, and was 6-of-9 from the charity stripe.
HSU also got a strong performance from
Alioune Mboup, who had a career high 16 boards to go along with 8 points.
Tavian Pomlee would contribute nine points and eight rebounds for Henderson State as well.
The Reddies out-rebounded the Crimson Storm 41-to-37, but committed 14 turnovers which led to 22 SNU points.
Henderson State finished the contest making 22-of-59 attempts from the field for 37 percent, while Southern Nazarene shot at 44 percent on 25-of-57 attempts.
The Reddies also knocked down 14-of-22 attempts from the charity stripe for 64 percent, while SNU was 16-of-23 for 70 percent.
Henderson State will return to GAC action on Saturday to take on Oklahoma Baptist at the Duke Wells Center, with tipoff set for 3 p.m.
