A strong second half surge from Henderson State lifted the Reddies past Oklahoma Baptist 72-59 in Great American Conference action on Saturday at the Duke Wells Center.
With the win, the Reddies improved to 4-9 in the GAC this season while Oklahoma Baptist drops to 1-12.
Henderson State trailed 32-30 at the break before scoring an onslaught of 42 points in the second half while limiting OKBU to 27.
The Reddies finished the contest making 21-of-49 shot attempts for 43 percent including 7-of-20 from three for 35 percent.
Henderson State had one of its best performances of the season from the charity stripe, as the Reddies knocked down 23-of-29 attempts for 79 percent.
Oklahoma Baptist would make 21-of-55 attempts from the field for 38 percent, and the Reddies limited the Bison to 7-of-30 from behind the three-point line for just 23 percent.
Henderson State forced a total of 20 Bison turnovers in the contest while only turning the ball over nine times themselves.
Leading the way for HSU was sophomore guard
Kaylon Tappin, who finished with 13 points including 9-of-11 makes at the free-throw line.
Aaron Cooper also contributed a strong performance with 12 points, while
Zydrunas Jurgutis and
Kevin Kozan each pitched in 11.
Matt Panaggio also scored eight points for HSU, and led the Reddies in rebounds on the day with six.
Henderson State got 28 points from its bench in the game, and also converted 27 points off of turnovers.
Chandler Rickey would lead all Bison scorers with 17 points on the day.
Henderson State will continue with Great American Conference action on Thursday, as the Reddies take on the Tigers of East Central, with tipoff slated for 7:30 p.m. in Ada, Okla.
