In front of one of the largest crowds to witness a game at Clyde Berry Field, Tarleton State used three home runs to beat Henderson State 10-5, Friday in Arkadelphia, Ark.
In the first-ever night game at Henderson, Tarleton State wasted no time getting on the board scoring five runs in the opening frame with the help of a three-run homer by Dalton Richardson followed by a solo blast by Hunter Seales.
The Reddies would plate a run in the bottom half of the inning as
Jared Gage reached on a walk and scored on a
Jordan Taylor double to right field.
AJ Kruzel would get things started in the second-inning for the Reddies with a triple off the right-centerfield fence. The senior from Cincinnati, Ohio would later score on a ground out by
Matt Evans to make the score 5-2.
Henderson cut the deficit to 5-3 in the fourth-inning as
Joseph Gary led off the frame with a walk and move to second on a single by Jake Gaul. Gary would then score on a two-out single by Evans.
After being held scoreless for three innings, the Texans added to their lead when Jake Hasbrouck hit a two-run home run in the fifth-inning to make the score 7-3.
Tarleton State put together four hits in the sixth-inning to score two more runs to push the lead to 9-3.
Henderson would push across two runs in the bottom of the seventh-inning to close the gap to 9-5.
With two-outs,
Jared Gage and Taylor would single gets things started for the Reddies. A pair of Texan fielding errors would allow both players to score.
Tarleton would add another run in the eighth-inning and end the game with 13 hits.
Chris Hunt pitched 5.1 innings for the Reddies striking out six batters.
Blake Patterson would pitch the final 3.2 innings and fan five Texan batters.
Taylor and
Tadarious Hawkins had two hits each to lead the Reddies.
The two teams will finish the three-game series with a double-header on Saturday beginning at Noon.
