Reddies Fall in 66-60 GAC Tilt to Oklahoma Baptist

The Henderson State women's basketball team could not overcome a slow start on Saturday, falling 66-60 to Oklahoma Baptist in Great American Conference play at the Duke Wells Center.

HSU(9-10, 8-5 GAC) scored just nine points in the first quarter as the Lady Bison(9-10, 7-6 GAC) held a 28-25 lead at the break.

At the end of the third quarter, OKBU would hold a 50-40 lead over the Reddies before Henderson State outscored the Lady Bison 20-16 in the final quarter, but the comeback effort would not be enough.

Henderson State finished the contest making 20-of-56 attempts from the field for 36 percent, while OKBU shot 40 percent making 23-of-58 attempts.

The Reddies attempted 28 three-pointers in the game, but only connected on seven including just one in the first half, shooting 25 percent from beyond-the-arc.

Both teams knocked down 13-of-20 attempts from the charity stripe for 65 percent each.

Henderson State would out-rebound Oklahoma Baptist 42-40, but committed 17 turnovers in the game while OKBU committed 14.

Leading the way individually for HSU was Torrie Thompson, as the freshman guard scored 16 points on 6-of-14 attempts and also ripped down seven rebounds.

Victoria Stewart also scored her season average of 13 points for the Reddies knocking down three trifectas, while Moe Bedford contributed a double-double effort with 11 points and 13 boards.

Brittany Branum also scored in double-figures for Henderson State with 10 points.

OKBU had four players score in double-figures as well, and were led by Cameerah Graves with 12, while McKenzie Cooper and Kiara Moore pitched in 11 each and Arielle Cooper had 10.

Henderson State will attempt to bounce back on the road Thursday, as the Reddies travel to Ada, Okla. to take on East Central with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m.
