Henderson Women Hit the Road to Face Mississippi College

After beginning Great American Conference play with a pair of wins, the Henderson State women's basketball team will travel to Clinton, Miss. for a non-conference tussle with Mississippi College, Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

The Reddies, 2-2 on the season, are coming off an 89-73 win on Saturday against Oklahoma Baptist in a contest that saw three players score in double-figures.

Pink Jones led the team with a career-high 23 points, with Torrie Thompson also turning in a career-best with 18 points.

Hailey Estes recorded her second consecutive double-double of the year with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Jones has scored in double-figures in all four games and averages a team-best 15 points per game. The freshman from Fayetteville, Ark. is shooting 58 percent from the field and also averages 3.5 rebounds per contest.

Thompson has hit nine of her last 15 shots from 3-point range and averages 11.8 points per contest while Estes is scoring 14.8 points and averages a team-best 8.3 rebounds per game.

The Reddies are the top scoring team in the league averaging 82.8 points per games, but rank ninth defensively allowing 79.2 points per contest.

Mississippi College is coming off a 69-66 loss to Lane on Saturday. The Lady Choctaws also played exhibition games against the University of Mississippi and Southern Mississippi earlier this month.

The Lady Choctaws roster consists of 14 players, including nine newcomers headlined by Copiah Lincoln Community College transfer Kelley Allen who was selected among the top newcomers in the Gulf South Conference preseason release.

Allen scored a game-high 19 points and had 12 rebounds against Lane.

Five returners help solidify this season's edition of the Lady Choctaws. Guard Olivia Mabry opened the season with 11 points and 4 rebounds last weekend.

Henderson will also have to contend with senior guard Ashley Minor who sat out last year due to injury. In the 2014-15 season, Minor was second on the team in scoring averaging 11.8 points per game, scoring in double-figures in 18 of 26 games.
