Henderson State challenged Division I Southeast Missouri State, but the Reddies fell short as the Redhawks recorded an 89-75 win in exhibition play Thursday in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Chris Hawkins led Henderson scoring 15 points while pulling down 8 rebounds
Brad Nairn followed with 14 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field, while
Kaylon Tappin scored 12 points.
Also scoring in double-figures were
Toney Foster with 11 points and
Eric Dailey having 10.
The Reddies converted on 27-of-63 from the field for 43 percent, but made just 6-of-24 from beyond the arc.
Southeast Missouri was efficient on 33 of 58 from the field for 57 percent, including 10-of-22 from 3 point range.
The Redhawks controlled the boards outrebounding the Reddies 41 to 26.
Henderson will next play host to Paul Quinn on Saturday with the opening tip set for 2 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center.
