Reddies head back to Oklahoma for showdown with Rogers State

A week after sweeping its first conference road trip to the Sooner state, the Henderson State women's basketball team heads back to Oklahoma this Saturday for a non-conference match up with Rogers State at 2 p.m. in Claremore, Oklahoma.

Series:
Henderson played RSU for the first time last season, defeating the Hillcats 49-48 in the Duke Wells Center, behind a free throw with 23 seconds remaining from now-Reddies graduate assistant coach Dulincia Keener.

Henderson Notes (4-4):
The Reddies are off to a fast start in 2016-17 and are currently tied for first place atop the Great American Conference standings at 4-0.

Henderson is led by guard Pink Jones, who is the leading freshman scorer and the second leading scorer overall in the GAC, averaging 16.3 points per game. Jones also ranks fifth in the conference in field goal percentage, shooting 54.5 percent from the floor through the season's first three weeks. Her impact is not just felt on the offensive end of the court either, as she is also fifth in the GAC in steals, averaging 2.1 per game. Jones was named GAC Player of the Week on Monday, becoming the first Reddie basketball player on either the women's or men's teams to receive the honor this season.

Another freshman, guard Hailey Estes, has been equally impressive for the Reddies thus far. Estes is averaging 12 points per game, leads Henderson in rebounding with 7.5 boards per contest and is second in the GAC in 3-pointers made with 23.

While the newcomers have been big additions for Henderson, familiar faces are also off to strong starts to the season. Junior guard Haleigh Henson is 10th in the conference in scoring, averaging 13.3 points per game, second in 3-pointers made with 23, leads the league in minutes played with 303 overall in eight games, and recently broke the Henderson State school record for 3-pointers in a career, hitting her 174th 3-pointer in last week's win over Southeastern Oklahoma State. Sophomore guard Torrie Thompson has also been big for the Reddies early, as she leads the GAC in 3-point shooting percentage, having hit 19-40 attempts on the year, good for 47.5 percent from behind the arc.

As a team, the Reddies are first in the GAC in scoring, averaging 80.4 points per game, and also first in 3-pointers made, with 77 in eight games.

Rogers State Notes (3-5):
The Hillcats, from the Heartland Conference, are 3-5 on the year and 0-2 against GAC opponents thus far in 2016-17, having lost to both Southern Nazarene and Oklahoma Baptist.

They are led by Natasha Kindred, who leads the team in both points, with 10.3 per game, and rebounds, with 5.1 per game, and is shooting 53.7 percent from the field on the year.
