Reddie Baseball Takes Down Northwest Missouri 6-1

Blake Patterson struck out seven batters in six innings of work to lead Henderson State to a 6-1 win over Northwest Missouri State, Thursday at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.

Patterson faced four batters above the minimum, throwing 95 pitches in picking up his first collegiate victory. The freshman from Benton, Ark. gave up five hits and allowed just one run on the evening.

The Bearcats, 1-3 on the season, took the lead in the top of the second-inning when Kolby Greenslade hit a two-out triple to right-center field to score James Holler to put NWMSU up 1-0.

Henderson would answer with two runs in the bottom half of the inning as the Reddies put together a pair of timely hits.

Tadarious Hawkins reached base when he was hit by an Anthony Caenepeel pitch with one out.

AJ Kruzel would then deliver a single to right center field which moved Hawkins to second base. With two outs, Alan Hall would single to score Hawkins and advance Kruzel to third.

Hall would get caught in a rundown on Caenepeel's pickoff attempt which enabled Kruzel to score and put the Reddies on top 2-1.

Henderson would manufacture a run in the sixth as Hunter Mayall and Joseph Gary would walk and advance to third on a balk. Jordan Taylor would make the score 3-1 driving Mayall home on a sacrifice fly to centerfield.

In the Henderson seventh, Kruzel belted his second hit of the game with Jared Gage then reaching on a walk.

Hall again stepped to the plate and delivered a two-run double down the left field line. Mayall would then single up the middle to plate Hall and extend the Reddie lead to 6-1.

Jay Hawley would pitch the seventh-inning for the Reddies striking out two batters, while Kris Priddy pitched the final two innings facing seven batters surrendering one single.

Kruzel and Hall led the Reddies offensively each going 2-for-3 in the game with Kruzel scoring two runs while Hall collected three runs batted in.

Henderson will take on Missouri Western on Friday with the first pitch at Clyde Berry Field set for 3 p.m.
