Reddies Win Two at UAM 8 States Softball Classic

Henderson State extended its winning streak to four games as the Reddies beat Emporia State and Truman State Friday at the UAM 8 States Softball Classic in Bentonville, Ark.

The Reddies, 6-2 on the season, scored seven runs in the seventh inning to beat Emporia State for the third time this season 8-2 to begin the tournament.

Henderson took an early 1-0 lead in the first-inning as Caroline Cullins led off the game reaching on an error by the right fielder. The Reddies would load the bases and Jordan Griffith would single to score Cullins.

Emporia State would score two runs in the bottom half of the sixth-inning to take a 2-1 lead before Henderson's big inning.

The Reddies would score all their runs with two outs as Morgan South hit a bases-loaded triple to put Henderson on top 4-2.

The inning continued as Alexia Lopez hit a two-run homer to increase the lead to 6-2. Ashleigh Erb joined in hit parade with a single followed by a RBI triple by Cullins. Cullins would then score on a Courtney Warren single for the final Henderson run.

Michelle Sorenson would pick up the win in the circle for Henderson. The sophomore from Sherwood allowed four hits and struck out two batters.

Lopez and Erb had two hits each to lead the Reddies' offense which totaled 10 hits in the game.

Against Tarleton State, Jordan Griffith hit a walk-off home run with two strikes in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Reddies to a 4-3 win over the Bulldogs.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the second, Henderson put together four hits including RBI singles by South and Garza.

Tarleton regained the lead in the top of the fifth, but a Lopez solo home run to lead off the bottom half of the inning tied the score at 3-3. It was Lopez's second home run of the day.

After Madison Calvert held Truman in check in the top of the seventh, Kendra Henze retired the first two Reddie hitters before Griffith's game-winning blast.

Henderson State will continue the three-day event on Saturday with a 9 a.m. contest against Wayne State followed by a meeting with Pittsburg State at 1 p.m.
