Henderson State split two games on Saturday beating Wayne State 7-6 before losing to Pittsburg State 4-3 at the UAM 8 States Softball Classic in Bentonville, Ark.

The Reddies were scheduled to play two more games on Sunday, but the remainder of the tournament was cancelled due to inclement weather in northwest Arkansas.

Henderson, 7-3 on the season, finished the tournament with a 3-1 record.

Wayne State jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top half of the second-inning with the help of an Alyssa Schopp home run.
Â
Henderson would respond in the bottom half of the inning scoring five runs on three hits to take a 5-4 lead.

The Reddies loaded the bases as
Ashlyn White,
Alexia Lopez and
Morgan South all reached by walks.
Destiny Garza then stepped to the plate and hit a grand slam to tie the score.

With two outs,
Caroline Cullins walked and would later score on a
Keirsten Seahorn single to center field to give the Reddies the lead.
Â
Wayne State would score two runs in the fourth to retake the lead 6-5, but in Henderson's half of the fourth,
Courtney Warren homered to center field to tie the score at 6-6.

The Reddies would score the game-winning run in the sixth as Cullins walked to lead off the inning and stole second base. Cullins scored when Seahorn reached on a fielding error by the WSU right fielder.

Michelle Sorensen would enter the game in relief of
Madison Calvert in the fourth and pitch four scoreless innings to get the win. The sophomore from Sherwood, Ark. did not allow a hit and struck out six batters to improve to 5-2 on the year.

The Reddies finished with eight hits with Warren, Seahorn and South having two hits each.

Against Pittsburg State, the Gorillas led 4-0 before the Reddies rallied in the seventh-inning.

Seahorn would hit a one-out double followed by
Alexia Lopez's third home run of the weekend to cut the deficit to 4-2.
Henderson added another run as
Jordan Griffith walked followed by back-to-back singles by South and Garza. However, the Reddie rally would fall short as Pittsburg State held on for the win.

The Reddies will begin Great American Conference play next weekend against Harding beginning with a double-header on Friday at 3 p.m. at Dee White Field.
