Reddies Softball Opens GAC Play With Split Against Harding

Henderson State opened Great American Conference softball play with a split against Harding Friday at Dee White Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.

The Reddies would win the opener 5-1 before the Bisons captured the nightcap 10-4.

In the opener, Henderson did not waste any time getting on the board as Ashlyn White blasted her first home run of the year in the bottom half of the first inning.

The junior from Longview, Texas took Hannah Johnson's 1-2 pitch over the left field fence to score Courtney Warren who walked earlier in the inning to give the Reddies a 2-0 lead.

Henderson would add two more runs in the third inning with Warren reaching on a single to get things started.

White would single and both runners would advance to scoring position on a throw to third in an attempt to get Warren. Keirsten Seahorn plated both runners with a double to put the Reddies on top 4-0.

Harding scored a run in the fourth-inning before the Reddies added a run in the sixth as Jordan Griffith singled to score Warren who doubled to lead off the inning.

Henderson totaled 12 hits with Warren going 3-for-3 with three runs scored. White also had three hits with a home run and a pair of RBI, while Seahorn and Griffith had two hits each.

Michelle Sorensen recorded a complete-game victory in the circle, striking out seven batters and improving to 6-2 on the year.

Harding would erupt for six runs in the second-inning sparked by an Alexus Llewellin  grand slam to set the stage for game two.

Henderson scored a run in the fourth on a RBI single by Griffith which scored Olivia Trapp who led off the inning with a single.

The Reddies added two more runs in the fifth as White plated a run on a bases loaded ground out with Alexia Lopez scoring a run on a single to center field.

Henderson would again score a run in the seventh as Trapp collected her second hit of the game and scored on a Lopez single for the final tally.

The two teams will conclude their GAC series with a double-header Saturday beginning at Noon at Dee White Field.
