HSU Softball Splits GAC Double-Header with Harding on Saturday

Henderson State exploded for 11 runs in the second game of a twin-bill vs. Harding on Saturday to win 11-1 after falling in the first game 8-7 and splitting a Great American Conference double-header at Dee White Field.

The Reddies(9-5, 2-2 GAC) held a 6-0 lead in the first game through four innings after Keirsten Seahorn homer that drove in three RBI in the bottom of the second inning, followed by an Alexia Lopez single to center field which scored Shayla Wright from third base.

However, Harding(9-5, 2-2 GAC) used a five-run fifth inning to climb back in the game making the score 6-5.

HSU was able to tack on a run in the bottom of the fifth as Ashlyn White flied out to right field, picking up an RBI and plating Michelle Sorensen.

In the top of the seventh inning, Harding's Brooklynn Moon doubled to center field which provided two more runs for Harding to even the score at 7-7.

As the game carried over into extra innings, the Lady Bisons' Morgan Acosta scored on a Reddie error in the top of the eighth inning, and HSU could not recover in the bottom of the eight as Harding escaped to victory.

In the second game, the Reddies would bounce right back and score early as Seahorn blasted a two-run homer over the left field wall, picking up two RBI as she scored Ashlyn White.

Home runs seemed to be the trend in game two, as White followed suit with a two-run homer of her own in the bottom of the third inning, extending the lead to 4-0 in favor of HSU.

The Reddies tacked on one run in the 4th inning when Ashleigh Erb singled to center field, allowing Morgan South to score and give HSU the 5-0 lead.

In the fifth inning, HSU would add two more runs and lead 7-0 before Harding finally answered with a Morgan Acosta single which scored Moon in the top of the sixth.

However, White would come up huge for HSU once again, as the junior crushed a home run over the left-center wall for a walk-off grand slam scoring Courtney Warren, Caroline Cullins, and Erb which would give HSU the 11-1 victory.

On the day, White finished with eight RBI and five hits including two home runs.

Warren plated four times on the day, while Seahorn finished with 5 RBI in the two contests.

From the circle, White would pick up the loss in the first game in two innings of work, surrendering two hits and four runs facing ten batters.

In the second game, Madison Calvert would pitch a complete game and pick up the win to improve to 3-2 on the season.

HSU will return to action on Friday, as the Reddies travel to Russellville to take on Arkansas Tech in a two-game conference double-header with first pitch set for 3 p.m.
