HSU Drops Pair of GAC Matchups at Nationally Ranked Arkansas Tech

Henderson State could not overcome a 20-hit outing from #6 Arkansas Tech in two games on Friday, as the Reddies fell 8-1 in the first game and 7-4 in the second in Great American Conference softball action in Russellville.

In game one, Arkansas Tech(14-1, 6-0 GAC) got on the board early, scoring two runs in the first inning on Sarah Coronado double to center field.

Tech would then tack on three more runs in the second before Henderson State(9-7, 2-4 GAC) would put up its only run of the contest in the fourth inning on an Ashlyn White homer.

Arkansas Tech would add three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to come away with the victory, as Henderson State finished the first contest with four errors.

White and Courtney Warren had both of HSU's hits in the game, while Tech had three players with two hits.

From the circle, Michelle Sorensen(6-3) suffered the loss for the Reddies, surrendering ten hits and striking out four batters.

For ATU, Jalissa Gum picked up the win to improve to 4-0 on the season.

In game two, Henderson was able to crank out five hits, but would still fall short as the Golden Suns once again got off to a hot start scoring five runs in the first inning alone.

HSU got on the board in the second as Warren singled straight down the middle of the field to score Alexis Morton and Lakin Wolever.

After Tech scored one more run in the bottom of the second inning, HSU attempted a comeback that would fall just short, as a Keirsten Seahorn double in the top of the fourth scored two more runs from Morton and Shayla Wright.

It was not enough, however, as ATU would add one run in the bottom of the fifth inning to preserve the victory.

Morton led the Reddies in game two cranking out two hits and plating twice, while both Seahorn and Warren finished the game with 2 RBI apiece.

Madison Calvert picked up the loss in game two for HSU, falling to 3-3 on the season, while Morgan Vaughan earned the win for ATU and moved to 6-0.

The Reddies will look to bounce back in another double-header tomorrow against the Golden Suns, with first pitch of game one set for noon in Russellville.
